The author of this article holds the view that the three invocations by the poet, of a safe haven, of a thatched roof and of high mountains, are not references to three material places but rather they represent the same spiritual sphere of peace, harmony and purity where the poet wishes to spend the rest of his life, leaving behind his mistakes and hardships, removed from worldly passions and dangers. These are represented by the metaphor of a storm at sea and the resulting shipwreck of ships and seafarers, the tragic description of which (stanzas 8-12) moves him, in the last stanza, to invoke yet again the so desired safe haven. Thus, the Ode, apart from its strong unity of form and meaning, it is closed and circular.
