Differential Object Marking and bare plurals

This paper presents a review of the phenomenon of Differential Object Marking (DOM) with bare nouns. It has been traditionally argued that DOM is ungrammatical with this type of phrase; however, there is no quantitative study that corroborates this statement. This paper presents two studies based on acceptability judgements that test the alleged ungrammaticality of sequences such as those mentioned above. The results suggest that speakers no longer perceive the extension of marking to the category of bare plurals as ungrammatical.
