Scholarly transcription of medieval and Renaissance texts is usually performed as if the texts were not part of a determined book (codex or incunabulum). This paper examines the fundamental problem of text reference from the point of view of a straight forward and thorough representation of the source in three main works of Nebrija’s corpus. Beyond the discussion of a standard reference system, especially when text computational analysis is concerned, it attempts to formulate the methodological conditions for a better collaboration among all the disciplines of Humanities, i.e. between book specialists, on the one hand, and text scholars, on the other (historians, philologists, linguists).
