In this paper I examine three phonic changes taking place in Spanish: the relaxation of /s/ in implossive position, the yeísmo, and the loss of voiced /d/ in intervocalic position. The analysis looks at the Comunidad the Madrid, a territory characterized by the exchange of linguistic influences and the crossing of linguistic borders. The perspective of the study is both dialectal and sociolinguistic. My objective is to know whether Madrid acts as a center for the spread of these southern innovations, or whether the city follows instead the northern Castilian norm.
