This article analyses the image which the book Hechos del condestable Miguel Lucas conveys of its subject. Unlike other biographies of the XVth century, this text does not emphasize the chivalric traits of the hero; on the contrary, his portrait matches perfectly with the image of the good king derived from works like Vergel de príncipes by Rodrigo Sánchez de Arévalo or Doctrinal de príncipes by Diego de Valera. Loyalty towards his king is the only clearly chivalric virtue of Miguel Lucas, and this can be seen as a way of offering models of behaviour to the king’s own subjects.
