Abstract

In this article we propose to present the guidelines for the historical study of the nominal composition in Spanish (and in other romances). In general terms, we can say that, except in few cases in which there is direct inheritance from Latin, the romance languages had to restructure and to introduce the schemes of composition of words, developing many patterns that were incipient in Vulgar Latin, until overcoming in richness and variety the very Latin itself. Then, on this common base already romance, each language evolved its own pattern, according to the expressive needs and the adjustment to the respective linguistic systems.
