The bilingual vocabularies of Spanish and Indigenous Languages of the Americas compiled in the Colonial period usually employ neologisms in their Castilian text borrowed from Indigenous languages. This article analyzes the lexical innovations of the Vocabulario de la lengua cakchiquel, the first known vocabulary of a Mayan language, probably composed in Guatemala around 1555 which is conserved now in the National Library of France (ms. R.7507). It gives old attestations of loanwords and from them it revises etymological and geographical data of the current edition of DRAE.
