Based on a text by Gonzalo de Berceo (Milagros de Nuestra Señora, III: El clérigo y la flor ), the article argues about the predominant, or quantitative, rhetorical use of amplificatio as dilatatio materiae during the Middle Ages. Some verses from the tale are confronted with the Latin source to show that the author does not forget the proper, or classical, or qualitative, sense of amplificatio as increment or exaggeration, and even that this aspect becomes essential to understand the treatment he has made of the source in this and other texts of the work.
