Abstract

Exposition and analysis of M. Morreale’s contribution to the Spanish Philology through the so-called Homenaje a fray Luis de León (Salamanca, Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca-Prensas Universitarias de Zaragoza, 2007), that compiles a dozen of Basic studies, first for an historical reading of the Louisianans odes and later for the development of a philological review that goes down, not just to the text, but to the molecular elements that configure it: diacritic signs, spaces, etc. Special importance is given to the study of fonts and the context, so that every ode, every rhyme, every word sounds in multiple related texts in order to get their true interpretation. A series of added chapters have extended the detailed analysis to the Fray Luis versions, using even that to remake a botanical vocabulary and to study a Quevedo’s religious sonnet and the «No me mueve mi Dios para quererte» («My God doesn’t move me to love you»). All this philological baggage, hard to enumerate as a summary, constantly goes back to ecdotic tasks that allow the solving of (or to present) textual problems.
